Learn about the series.

  • The story will feature myself (Eric Braker) and my lifelong friend and fishing buddy, Wes Rhoades. When we were 14 years old, we took on the meaningful and daunting project of restoring a 1962, 14 foot, Sea King jon boat that was rotting away in a family friend’s yard. After many ups and downs and over a year of working together and with our fathers, we completed the project and had a brand new (at least to us) fishing vessel that accompanied us on all of our fishing adventures. This was such a meaningful project for both of us and our families.

On top of the building project itself, we created a fishing YouTube channel where we documented the entire process. Although the videos were over 10 years old, they all reached tens of thousands of views with the main video hitting over 130K.

Wes and I have both recently moved out of our childhood homes and it is now unfortunately time to get rid of the Sea King. It would be easy to sell on Craig’s list, but we both agreed that we would love to see a more romantic and proper send off…

  • “The Sea King” will chronicle our final 3 journeys on our trusty vessel. The three episodes will each feature a unique fishery and balance both conventional and fly fishing. Between new and challenging fishing locations, an old rusty trailer, and the fact that each trip needs to be completed by Sunday so that we can get to work on time Monday morning, there are bound to be plenty of bumps in the road…

While the final adventures will be a fun and approachable storyline in and of themselves, we plan to weave reflections from the larger story of the Sea King build in and out of the current adventure using our old footage we captured when we were 14 years old.

The final episode and the end of the story will show Wes and I fishing with one or two lucky anglers who are around the same age we were when we built the Sea King. At the end of the episode, and as a complete surprise, we will gift the boat to the young anglers in the hopes that the Sea King can help inspire the next generation to get out and connect with nature.
